I hold both an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics/Communication Disorders and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Communication Disorders, and have nearly 2 decades of experience in supporting people with literacy development.
My professional expertise span both private practice and public education. My 5+ years of work in private practice included school aged, adolescents and adults with acquired brain injuries, developmental disorders and speech and language disorders. Moreover, I have worked in public education as a Communicative Disorders Assistant (CDA) for over a decade, servicing children with speech and language needs. In this role, I determine and implement speech/language/literary techniques and interventions tailored to the unique needs of the individual learner. Based on the most-recent pedagogy, I develop individualized and responsive programming and therapies that are goal-based and have measurable outcomes. Finally, I have spent several summers supporting struggling readers at Literacy Camp – yes, through engaging and hands-on activities I have plenty of experience in making reading, FUN!
My approach is child-centred and rooted in the holistic growth of the learner – my goal is for your child to increase their literary skills, alongside their confidence and well-being. I want your child to be a skilled, willing, and happy reader.
To support your child’s development, Keen Minds implements Ascend SMARTER Intervention, a research and evidence-based program that is aligned with the Science of Reading, along with other research based programs such as UFLI and Really Great Reading. See links below for further details about these highly effective and engaging literacy programs.
